Youth are encouraged to avoid bad groups

 

Rwamagana, 15 February 2019: IPRC Gishari concluded a campaign on Gender Mainstreaming & Inclusiveness and Drug Abuse in both secondary schools and higher learning institutions located in Rwamagana District. This campaign is aimed at reducing gender inequalities in TVET and increase awareness on effects of using drug among youth at school. Concerned schools include GS Saint Aloys de Rwamagana, Rwamagana Lutheran School, Lycée Islamique de Rwamagana,GS Saint Vincent de Paul, Collège Marie de la Paix, and Guild Councils of both University of Lay Adventists of Kigali Rwamagana Campus and Rwamagana School of Nursing and Midwifery.

In her opening remarks the Deputy Principal in charge of Academics and Training at IPRC Gishari, Mrs Dominique INGABIRE, thanked all students attended this event and appreciated their efforts in the battle against drug abuse and their commitment towards gender inclusiveness. She believes that this campaign will always be organized to increase the awareness on gender mainstreaming & inclusiveness and drug abuse among youth as the basis for future generation

In this campaign, the Deputy Regional Police Commander in Eastern Province, CSP Francis MUHETO highlighted the effects of drug abuse. This includes poverty, sexual abuse, violence, etc. He encouraged the youth to avoid bad groups since these led to bad behaviour and consumption of drug.

MUTABAZI James, drug consumer, smuggler and dealer witnessed how he was addicted to drug use and later on he abandoned the practices of involvement in drug abuse and consumption. He encouraged the youth to have a vision.

The Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs in Rwamagana District and guest of honor, Umutoni Jeanne, requested participants to develop positive attitude toward gender inclusiveness and spirit of fighting drug.
